Your New Best Thing Ever: The Monkey BunchSelena Mills
I think I’ve blogged about this before, but that was a long time ago – and not even here, so. This is the sort of thing that I feel every parent of a toddler needs to know about.
Once upon a time ago, when I met my partner, he was the ED for a small music festival in Ontario, Canada. Once we were all official I hopped on board (literally) and it became our baby before babies. (Along with a bunch of very talented volunteers, board members and sponsors who made it all possible).
It was during this time that my appreciation for local indie music really grew. (Stop rolling your eyes now mainstream pop lover). It was during this co-production time of ours that we took great pleasure in booking and organizing some solid children’s programing for the little festy too.
One of the acts for kids that Trevor booked always stood out in my mind, a band that I actually enjoyed listening to, you know, myself. Keep in mind this was pre-kids, so I wasn’t forced into listening to it or anything. Their production was/is amazing and their lyrics/antics highly amusing, if not genius.
As parents we are very happy when any sort of children’s programming includes some subtle adult humour so as to make the repetition less painful, am I right?
The this that I’ve been mysteriously talking about is a group of talented musicians called The Monkey Bunch and I’m telling you parents, you NEED THIS CD. It will transform your life. Pretty bold statement to make regarding children’s music, hmmm?
All I know is that I’ve watched throngs of children become entranced by their music and engage for the entire length of the show/CD in dancing and singing along. We listen to it daily by request at our house and I haven’t wanted to stab my eyes out yet, not even once.
It is seriously adorable watching my little onces have a full-on dance party and take to ‘their own music’ with such passionate glee. Hitting play on this CD makes my mornings and meal-time prep easier. They’ve gotten into requesting it as soon as they wake up, instead of Netflix or iPad time. Now that is some strong toddler love right there.
While I fully realize that I write for an American company, I know there is more than a small Canadian readership here and even a few of my local mama and papa friends. Not all of whom will know about the awesomeness that I am about to inform you all of. Plus they have free online games and printable colouring pages!
The Monkey Bunch is playing a string of Live! Shows! in February and if you’re local enough to Toronto and have some wily toddlers, then this is a show not to miss. You’ll make their day, their week, if not their year. Anyways, I just had to put all of this out there, because really. It’s one of our many duties as parents to share this sort of good info with each-other. We’re going to the one on February 17th as a surprise.
If you’re not local or can’t make the show you can definitely hook up the fun at home: Get Power to The Little People on iTunes!
