Of Babes and Berries: 5 Summer Berries With Super Powers

‘Tis the season for berries.

Gooseberries, blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries. Have you heard of loganberries?

Berries are everywhere.

Sold in supermarkets, roadside stands, straight from the Amish farms that dot the Pennsylvania countryside in which I live.

They can also be found in the Wendy’s Berry Almond Chicken Salad that I’ve been caught purchasing three times so far this summer. But hey! As you’re about to see, I’m not just eating at Wendy’s, people. I’m fighting wrinkles AND heart disease!

If you haven’t tried to give your toddler blueberries yet, you’re missing out. I’ve yet to meet a toddler who doesn’t like blueberries. I still cut Henry’s in half and he’ll eat a whole handful, lickety-split.

Violet has graduated to blueberries and cottage cheese, which, again, if you haven’t tried I suggest you get on it. The combination is spectacular. For breakfast, snacks, dessert after dinner, you can’t go wrong. Berries are like nature’s candy. Give your little ones a tasty snack without the mom guilt that accompanies real candy.
