On Birthday Parties & Keeping it Simple

Birthday Party Craft Table

Wyndham is but a couple of weeks away from his 3rd birthday. Now that I have more than a few throwing of the birthday parties under my belt, I’ve learned a thing or two. And taken note on how some friends are keeping it simple (and less stressful).

We’ll be having his party during what is surely going to be the most challenging month we’ve had as parents yet…

The mister is touring more often than he’s home and we both have major deadlines in abundance over the month of November. To say that we’ll likely be maxed out, is an understatement. Which is one of the reasons why I am considering (and admiring the worthy attributes of), having a Pinterest free birthday party.

That’s right, you’ve heard it here first. I can’t make any promises, because my addiction to all that is DIY and entertaining runs deep. But in observing how small children give not a hoot about Pinterest, or themed parties all that much (in the Martha Stewart worthy sense)…and have a grand old time in the company of their friends, family (and yes, the cake and presents)…I mean, what sort of self-entitlement do I want my kid to have? Not much, seriously.

I want them to feel loved and special on their birthday, of course. I also don’t know how well I’ll stick to this, ‘less-is-more it brings you zen‘, mantra I’ve been trying to grasp. Maybe that’s just not how I roll. Maybe I’ll just tone things down a bit and do what I enjoy, rather than taking on too much.

Like taking pictures. Whatever happens, I want to be sure that In the midst of the birthday ruckus I’ll have time to take lots and lots of pictures like the ones I took for this cute little Small-Fry friend of ours on his 2nd birthday a couple of weeks ago. We had so much fun at that party, and there was not a DIY item of birthday decor in sight. But the cake…oh the cake was home-made. This part is non-negotiable. (Continue looking over here…)
