Our First Family Trip To The Aquarium

Splish splashing with the starfish!

Splish splashing with the starfish!

Last weekend, I turned 32. My husband asked me what I wanted to do for my birthday, and said I could choose anything. And as much as a long massage and a vacation to Mexico sounded fabulous, I knew what I really wanted to do was just have a simple, wonderful day with my family. I thought it would be fun to do something new with Cullen, so a trip to the Aquarium was in order!

One of my favorite things about being a mom is watching him explore and enjoy new things. It’s such a joy to watch his little brain process information, see him make connections, and literally watch him get smarter each day. We try to take advantage of all the learning opportunities here in Seattle, and we are frequent visitors of the Children’s Museum and the Seattle Zoo. But we hadn’t checked out the Aquarium yet, and a cloudy, rainy day felt like the perfect occasion.

Here are a few pictures of our trip!

    Splish, splash!
Cullen absolutely loved splashing in the starfish exhibit (which was allowed!). I can't wait til he's older and actually recognizes and enjoys being able to touch some of the animals and fish.

One of this favorite things was this funny octopus cutout. We'd try to show him exhibits and he'd just keep running back over and sticking his face through the hole!
  • Checking out the jellyfish 3 of 6
    Checking out the jellyfish
We were lucky enough to run into friends while we were there, and C and his buddy loved checking out the fish together. They are such troublemakers!
  • Cruising and climbing 4 of 6
    Cruising and climbing
The great thing about going places like the aquarium is that it is so well thought out for small kids. We were able to let Cullen run around and climb on things without constantly worrying he'd get hurt or lost.
  • Standing tall 5 of 6
    Standing tall
This reminds me we need to get a growth chart for our house! Mom clocked in at just over five feet, and Cullen was just a hair over the two line.
  • A wonderful afternoon 6 of 6
    A wonderful afternoon
It was such a fun way to celebrate my birthday with my family. I love seeing Cullen enjoying and exploring new things in the world!
