Patriotic Crafts in Time for Memorial Day

By Danielle |

Get ready for Memorial Day!

In a little over a week the entire country will be taking a weekend to celebrate Memorial Day. We’ll all strap on our red, white, and blue gear and hit the parades and picnics.

Instead of your toddler learning about Memorial Day through parades full of fire trucks and cheeseburger overload, why not start off by engaging them in some great crafts? Use these crafts as an opportunity to teach them on a toddler level just why we celebrate Memorial Day.

Now that our oldest toddler is at the age where he is understanding more, I went searching for a couple craft ideas and (as usual) I got sucked into Pinterest. Honestly, I don’t know how I lived as a parent before Pinterest.

Lay out a ton of newspaper and get your craft on!

Flag Pasting Project

I love this one because with a little bit of help from mom, you can have a great flag project. The flags may not come out looking like a beautiful old glory, but it's the thought that matters, right? Nothing better than a craft with heart!

I like these crafts and honestly never thought about doing any for Memorial Day or the 4th of July. I liked the firework one, however glitter has been banned in my home because for some reason my husband absolutely abhors the stuff! My oldest is not really into crafting, but maybe I’ll try one with him.

Another good free craft for young children to make for Memorial Day is coloring pages they can give to Veterans like the ones at http://www.thecolor.com/Category/Coloring/Memorial%20Day.aspx?holiday
