As I’ve mentioned in both 10 Signs Your Toddler is Ready for Potty Training and 9 Ways to Get Your Toddler Ready for Potty Training, we have begun to dabble in the potty training process. So far my two-year-old sits on the potty but doesn’t pee or poop.
Although she has recently advanced from fully-clothed-sitting to fully-naked-sitting so we’ve made a bit of progress.
Someone who has been through it and come out the other side is Elizabeth (from the Writer Revived) and her daughter SB, the stars of the video below. It’s called “Potty Training” and it’s edited humorously to look like the “coming attractions” for a movie.
I asked Elizabeth how potty training went and she said that although she had heard horror stories from other moms, she was still not nearly prepared for how tough it would be. (AWESOME!)
Elizabeth didn’t pressure her daughter before she was ready and used M&Ms as a motivator even though she swore she never would (you can’t blame a mother for using what works!) As a result, SB was successfully potty trained shortly after her third birthday.
One big lesson Elizabeth learned was never to grant “potty privacy”. Let’s just say someone had to take a bath afterwards. IN BLEACH.
Still, no matter how tough the potty training process, it’s good to have a sense of humor about it.
