While I was out driving around town today, my mind was wandering to New Year’s Eve’s of years past. Back in the early years after graduation, my roommate and I were the ones who always hosted the party for our friends. After I met Casey, we spent a few years celebrating at his friends’ houses up in Indiana. But wherever we were, New Year’s Eve was always all about sparkly outfits, cheap champagne, and a greasy breakfast the next morning.
Last year we spent New Year’s in an airplane – flying from Indiana back home to Seattle. I can’t even remember if we stayed up until midnight or not. This year, we’re ringing it in toddler-style. It is 8pm and we are already home from our holiday festivities. Yep, we partied it up at 4pm.
We got together with our other mom and dad friends, ate delicious appetizers, drank bubbly drinks, and watched the toddlers bounce around the house. It was awesome. And now I’m cozied up on my couch with a big cup of cold care tea beside me, and a movie downloading in front of me.
It might not be as fancy or festive as celebrations of past, but this has already been one of the best New Year’s I can remember in quite some time. It doesn’t really matter when you celebrate, as long as you’re around the people you love.
