Seemingly overnight, our sweet, slightly diva-esque baby/toddler girl has forayed into FULL-ON, DIVA-TOWN.
Girl has a voice and she is learning to use it with all of the strong-willed passion she can muster. Which is a lot for such a little person. Many would say that we are entering into the ‘terrible twos’ (a stage of which is also said to go on well into ages 3 and even 4), and all I can do is nod my head YES. YES. We are so there.
Abby is definitely testing her boundaries, our boundaries and pretty much thinks that she can defy the boundaries gravity too. It would be awesome if she could, but alas that stuff only happens in books, the movies, and maybe on a yoga retreat.
I kind of understand her need to assert herself, she has a big brother who constantly tests her bravado and enters into her personal space (what’s that?) willy nilly, nothing is scared. At this point, he is physically bigger and stronger than her and apart from stepping in when things get extra out of hand, we’re starting to leave them alone to work it out for themselves. And perhaps plug our ears.
This little lady has a set of pipes. She can shriek and flail onto the ground in amtter of seconds over such things as a diaper change, bed or nap-time, getting dressed (oh, this is a huge one), not being allowed to take one bite out of a dozen apples, getting into her car-seat, or having her stoller, a baby-doll, or an item of play jewelry taken away from her. Essentially, any and all things, plus any other random amount of anything that she decides is the WORST. THING. EVER.
The sheer strength of her limbs amazes me and the fierceness in her eyes makes me proud, but it also frightens me at the same damn time.
I think we’re moving into a new stage of having some stronger consequences, much the same as we are doing with her brother and making sure we give her more one on one time. Sometimes it’s not about the discipline. Sometimes it’s just that they need our attention, to you know, actually do stuff with them.
These are some not-so-random, overwhelming updates as of late in the land of Lil’ Abner. Who’s proving not to be not quite so little anymore.
