She's a Big Girl Now

By Selena Mae |

Someone hold me. My boy Wyndham turns 3 tomorrow and little Abby is officially saying sayanora to her last bits of baby gear. The latest milestone has been putting her highchair in the garage and letting her sit freely at the table with us or on a booster seat.

She’s loving this new development and it’s made a big difference in how she eats her dinner. We were struggling for a while with getting her to take any real interest in food, (aside from flinging it everywhere).

Sometimes…I think our children they’re trying to tell us something and we’re just not listening…Because it’s not done in the way that we would communicate. i have to keep telling myself to stop expecting them to be all grown up or something and communicate calmly and resourcefully. Heck, a lot of adults can’t even do that.

Usually I get all melancholy when we pass a big milestone, wherein my babies start to become less and less baby-like. Kicking the highchair to the curb, however – left me feeling nothing but joy. It’s been a good run the past couple of weeks, with my kids and I.

For a while there, things were CRAZY TOWN and I had about ten flags hoisted and waving about frantically. I keep hearing that’s how this parenting gig goes. Up and down like a rollercoaster and one just has to learn to embrace the good and the bad challenging days; that doing as such goes a long way in feeling less tried and stressed out all the time.

While I’m not so sure I can be a bag of sunshine when one of my toddlers punches me in the face for giving them ice cream or screams incessantly in my face for giving them the wrong coloured sippy cup – I can say this. I’m pretty sure this is supposed to be the best time of my life and that nothing good ever came without really hard work. So.

Did I mention my boy turns three tomorrow and I have no more babies (or gear save the crib) in my home? WHOA. Someone hold me.
