In my former life, I used to watch the Oscars® to cheer on my favorite actors and movies and see which of my favorites would take home the awards and I’ve always loved watching the red carpet fashions. OK. Let’s be real, I the red carpet fashions have always been the main attraction for me.
But, this year? I’d only actually seen one of the nominated movies (apparently motherhood is a real time suck. Who knew?). Pathetic I know. I almost considered skipping out this year and not even watching. I figured I could always just check out the best and worst dressed nominees online after the fact. But then I discovered a genius app to help make the Oscars fun for me again.
The Official Oscars App is basically the best thing to happen to the Oscar’s since Angelina’s famous slit-way-up-to-there dress (OK, actually, I didn’t even like that dress. It’s WAY cooler than that).
First of all, it’s super navigable and has all of the information you could ever want to know about the Oscars. If you’re like me and haven’t seen a movie since who-knows-when, you can easily get caught up and see who is being nominated in each category. You’ll be able to get caught up on all the Oscars need-to-know basics, but now let’s talk about the fashion.
You can peruse tons of past Oscars fashion moments via the simple categories in the photo menu. Some of the categories are: “Red Carpet Retro”, “Oscars Best Dressed” and “Glitter and Sparkles” (who doesn’t love that?!). I had so much fun checking out all the galleries and it brought back fun memories of watching past award shows with friends. BUT…it gets even better than that!
On the night on the Oscars (2/24/12 @ 7 EST) you can use the app’s backstage pass along with the show and it’ll take you behind the scenes of Hollywood’s biggest night with live streaming feeds that you can control. You’ll be able to see all the celebrities walk the red carpet as well as being able to see them mingling backstage. So cool to be able to get an up close and personal seat for the Oscars and I know this will definitely make watching even more fun for me – I can hardly wait!
