Fun Fourth of July projects for kids aged 2-10.

Whether you’re having a small family BBQ or a big party on the beach, let your children get into the holiday spirit with these easy-to-make patriotic crafts using inexpensive supplies and LOTS of red, white and blue! – Joanne Roehm

  • Personalized Chocolate Bar

    Star Pendants (2 – 3-Year-Olds)

    Young ones will love decorating these shiny patriotic pendants that they can wear or give away! These would be a great make-and-take party favor for little ones.

    Supplies

    Cardboard scraps, hole punch, yarn or ribbon, aluminum foil, colored markers (sharpies work wonderfully, if supervised!), embellishments (stickers, glitter, etc.)

    How to

    Step 1: Grown-ups cut stars out of cardboard and glue aluminum foil over shapes to cover.

    Step 2: Punch hole in top of star using hole punch.

    Step 3: Allow children to decorate stars using stickers, markers, etc. in red, white and blue.

    Step 4: Thread yarn or ribbon through hole at top of star and tie to form necklace.

  • Desk Organizer

    Patriotic Pinwheels (4 – 6-Year-Olds)

    These oversized pinwheels are fun to make and great to use as d’cor at your July 4th get-together. Kids will enjoy putting them together in different color combinations and sizes and will love it if you use their creations to adorn the dinner table or back yard!

    Supplies

    Squares of scrapbook paper (or construction paper, etc.) in red, white and blue, paper fasteners or scrapbooking brads, drinking straws, scissors, hole punch, embellishments (glitter, markers, etc.)

    How to

    Step 1: Glue two pieces of scrapbook paper together and allow to dry.

    Step 2: Make diagonal cuts from each corner to about 1 inch from the center of the square.

    Step 3: Punch holes in four corners and center of paper and in top of straw.

    Step 4: Bring four corners of paper to the center, push paper fastener through paper holes and through the straw and secure.

    Step 5: Embellish if desired.

  • Dad's Magnets

    Firework Flip-Flops (7 – 10-Year-Olds)

    Let your children’s feet get in the 4th of July spirit with these fun flip-flops! They’d be a great activity for a group of children or to take home as party favors!

    Supplies

    Red, white and blue ribbon, scissors, flip flops

    How to

    Step 1: Cut pieces of ribbon approximately 5-6 inches long.

    Step 2: Starting at the center of the flip-flops where the straps meet, tie ribbons in double knots.

    Step 3: Continue to tie ribbons until flip-flop straps are completely covered.

    Step 4: Trim ends of ribbon.
