Toddler Bliss: Everyday Is Beach Day

Beach Obsessed ToddlersIt started innocently enough. Our hopes that Wyndham would over-come his fear of the water. Natural for a parent of a toddler right?

Well, all of our antics finally worked. I’ve created a monster. Of the amphibian humanoid variety.

Now, now we pretty much live at the beach or beware the wrath of the toddlers.

There is nowhere else Wyndham and Abby would rather be, and while it makes dinner-time a little hectic – there’s nowhere else I’d rather be either.

Long, luxurious weekends spent at the beach, weeknights we scurry off as quick as we can to shovel our dinner in, or just pack a picnic.

Everything smells like sunscreen and oh, the sand. It’s everywhere all the time. We have a rotation of 2 swimsuits for each of us and wet towels in corners are my nemesis.

Although, now that we’re mid-way through summer these little munchkins of mine are starting to to actually listen to me when I ask them to do simple things, like pick up after themselves. Hang up towels, put their clothes in the laundry basket and I don’t have to bribe them! Wyndham has gotten into the habit of doing it on his own! I mean, what? Proof to me that consistency really is key.

How can I deny their sweet little voices, asking me to take them to the beach when it’s only a couple of blocks away? Even if it’s every night. Being so close to the water is one of of the reasons we bought this house anyways. I don’t think I’ve been to the beach so often in my entire life, as I have the past two months.

The evening is my favourite time to take them there, when the sun is low and warm, not blazing. When many families have packed up for the day to have dinner, we picnic or have already eaten a super early one. Our mini-van is always full of dirt and beach toys, while I’ve given up vacuuming the sunroom everyday of the mess that we traipse in. Instead, I just savour their company. Every last minute of it until bedtime.

This is a good season to me me, to be a parent, to be us. Fall? I’m watching you. Talk to the hand. Your time and my love affair with you shall come soon enough.
