Air Canada rouge, Canada’s New Airline Will Take Flight July 1st

rouge_a319Air Canada is ranked as one of the best international airlines in the world, but they tend to be on the pricy side. When possible, my family and I fly on WestJet, Sunwing, Air Transat, Porter or various domestic airlines as they are usually cheaper. That may change in the very near future thanks to their new ‘rouge’ addition.

Air Canada announced plans to launch a budget airline a couple of years ago and remained true to their promise. Air Canada rouge will take flight on its historic inaugural flight on Canada Day, July 1, 2013. The start-up fleet consists of four aircrafts – two Boeing 767-300ERs and two Airbus A319s. For the 2013-2014 season, travelers will be able to visit destinations in the Caribbean, Mexico, Florida and Las Vegas with a total of 23 destinations.

In regards to entertainment, Air Canada rouge will offer passengers a “player” which is essentially an entertainment system that streams unlimited live entertainment to their own personal electronic devices. Each child and adult can watch a movie or television show on their own iPad, iPhone or tablet. Pretty cool huh? The only downfall – if you don’t have an electronic device you’re out of luck. Unlimited access to TV Shows and movies will be offered for free in July and after that customers will be required to pay $5. They have also stated the airline will offer “generous baggage allowances” so let’s hope that means more than just a carry-on. Paying for luggage gets quite old especially when you’re traveling with a large family.

The new rouge uniforms are quite cute don’t you think?

I priced out a flight to Cayo Coco from Toronto and the cost difference was $32 – not so hot. Will continue tinkering with it. Hopefully they have a few sales… We’ll be sure to keep you posted! In the meantime, if you’ve been thinking of a trip to the Caribbean, try pricing it out through Air Canada as the rouge rates will pop up automatically.
