There’s a new Google Maps update! Just in time for summer travel, Google has updated their Maps app with some extremely useful features that you’ll find quite useful during your upcoming trips. From now on, you’ll be able to keep up to date at all times on road closure information, construction and traffic with the live incident reports that provide traffic data as well as immediate alerts if a faster route comes available.
Google’s Android and iPhone apps have been updated and they’ve just released a new app especially for the Android tablet as well as the iPad.
The new Explore feature is what I’m really excited about. This neat addition will display information on places to eat, sleep, drink and shop in the form of little cards. Once you tap on those cards, Google will provide a list of the best locations for that specific category. It’s a social feature that will integrate a five-star rating system, coupons and special offers. Sounds very ‘FourSquare’ to me, all they are missing is the check-in option.
Speaking of social, ABC News has also reported that Google recently purchased Waze, a popular social traffic app. They have yet to confirm as to whether this new traffic data feature in Google Maps is a result of Waze, however it certainly seems to be the case.
