St. Petersburg, RUSSIA On our recent family trip to Russia, we toured St. Petersburg’s Hermitage Museum, but we were left to our own devices. It was a bit daunting — and quite an adventure, especially since the Hermitage happens to be the world’s largest museum. We took a half-day tour of the renowned building, which amounted to walking three miles inside in order to see as many artistic highlights as we could manage. With all that, we didn’t even get through half of the museum! But, wait! There is more to share with you than just the Hermitage museum. Go ahead, click away… I can’t fit all the information on this one page, silly.

Matryoshka Dolls 3 of 7
Matryoshka dolls, also widely known as Russian nesting dolls, can be found all over town. They are must-buy gift items to take back home. The dolls are made of a block of wood and are normally hand-painted. They are called nesting dolls because the pieces are nested inside one another. Beautiful, wouldn't you agree?

A fun fact that we learned in the Hermitage Museum! Did you know if you step on a Russian friend's foot, you better present your own foot immediately to be stepped on in return? An old wives' tale states that if you don't allow your friend to reciprocate, the two of you will have a fight in the future.
