Traveling lightly has become more and more of a necessity thanks to luggage fees and minimal weight restrictions with checked and carry-on luggage, which is why lightweight luggage is a must! Checking full size luggage is something that we do quite rarely when traveling with our children, now that my two girls are 4 and 6, they tote their own carry-on through the airport during trips that are between 3-5 days in length. We could most likely pull it off during longer trips and cruises from 7-10 days, however with a 2 year old, frequent outfit changes and extra supplies are usually required and we tend to check our bags. The limit for a full size bag is 50 lbs and we somehow manage to pack exactly 50 pounds if not a couple of ounces over, leaving zero room for additional gifts or items we may have purchased along the way.
Our Heys Luggage is definitely on the lighter side, but not as light as it could be. We purchased the set 5 years ago and have had each of the 3 pieces fixed during that time. Thankfully, the 5 year warranty protected us against spending any extra on repairs. However, if they do break again, I’ll be looking for another set – this time lighter.
During a flight to Cancun several days ago, I watched an episode of Business Traveler on CNN where they interviewed the Chief Executive of Samsonite and said that the cases are 50% the weight that they were 55 years ago. People are more concerned about the weight of their luggage than they have ever been in the past. Small enough to get in the overhead bins and light enough to get the most bang for your buck. Just how light? You’d be surprised!
