The Most Affordable Family Getaway You Can Take

Screen Shot 2014-04-01 at 12.25.52 AMI feel as though all I ever do is whine  about the winter of 2013-2014, but let me tell you — for the past 1o years that we’ve lived here, we’ve never once experienced a winter as cold and as long as the one we are just about to say farewell to. Goodbye winter, and please don’t let the door hit you when you leave!

Several weeks ago, we took the most affordable family getaway that you can possibly take. It cost us nothing in airfare, our suite included a full kitchen and the hotel had a pool, hot tub and water slide. Our rate was only $115 per night and our meals were very affordable. Our little getaway (including food) cost us under $200 and the kids had so much fun that they shed a few tears when it was finally time for us to leave.

Where did we go?

Our city. That’s right, I took the kids to our own local city, just 1 hour and 15 minutes from our home, and it was the most amazing weekend filled with an incredible amount of fun. We didn’t have to drive far and yet we made fun memories while staying close to home.

We spent hours in the pool, ate lots of pizza and watched movies until we fell asleep. There were no rules — just fun.

Over four weeks have passed and the kids are still talking about it, asking when we can do it again. If you’re looking for a quick getaway that’s affordable, think local! You won’t regret it — I promise!
