Ashton Kutcher Gives Relevant Career Advice During Teen Choice Awards

Ashton Kutcher was given the Ultimate Choice Award on Sunday night at the Teen Choice Awards.

He took a few minutes to give teens advice.

It’s worth watching, below, if you have five minutes, and can stand a little teenage girl hysteria.

It resonated with me, and I am quite clearly not his target audience.

He said three important things.

Opportunities Look a Lot Like Hard Work

He discussed some of his early jobs, and he made a point to say that he was never “better than” any job he had. He was simply lucky to have a job. He worked hard, and because he worked hard, opportunities presented themselves.

There’s Nothing Sexier Than Being Smart

And thoughtful. And generous. Everything else is someone trying to sell you something that will make you feel bad.

Build a Life, Don’t Live One

Find your opportunities. The world we know was created by people who are no smarter than you.

The man who isn’t known, at least publicly, for deep, inspirational speeches, said in under five minutes what many of us need to hear. Don’t think that a job is beneath you. Be smart and thoughtful and kind. Create your world.

And have a great day!
