Today is a very important day for women. President Obama is signing into law the Violence Against Women act. It has me thinking about women and empowerment. As I get older I find I learn more about being a woman true to herself, empowered and strong, through my daughters. They are so bold, so commanding of their World and their own presence in it, it’s breathtaking.
For example, on the way to school today, my youngest told me she is choosing songs that she and her girlfriends will use to audition for the school talent show based on their true essence. Their true essence? Yeah, she’s 9! My eldest is even more heroic. After suffering through bullying and condemnation in grade school, she has burst forth like a missile rocketing into her new World of junior high. She expresses herself with a ferocity that astounds me. I feel like I am playing catch up to both of my daughters in my effort to empower the me deep within. The me that life has not been very good to in years past, and I, through indoctrination, have taken up the abusive reins. But through their example, and a whole lot of effort, I am rising up. It’s not an instantaneous achievement. It takes time, and boy is it hard. So when I need a little extra umph, I load up my very special I AM playlist. It’s music that sizzles in my soul, motivating me to dig deeper and try harder. Why? Because I AM WORTH IT!
So the next time you are feeling run over in life, take a musical and visual cue from my daughters. Page through my I AM playlist and empower the WOWman in you. Because you are worth it.
