“School’s out for summer…”
That’s the theme song of kids all over the country right now! School’s out, summer’s on and that means it’s time for lazy days at the beach. Afternoons spent with toes in the sand, salty air, and yummy beach picnic food and drinks.
Summer is one of our favorite times of the year; we get to let our hair down, sleep in a bit, and plan long days and weekends at the beach with our friends. You can follow the train of cars down the causeway and with the windows rolled down, the salt air fills the car as it wafts in on the breeze.
The sound of giggles from the backseat, the excitement building in the air until it’s palpable – that’s summer to me, that’s summer to our kids and friends.
With canopies lining the beach, chairs lining the shore, and pails and shovels scattered along as kids search for seashells, build sandcastles and bury each other in the sand, there’s a sense of freedom and joy and pure happiness. It fills you up and you feel your muscles relaxing, the tension draining from your body as you set up your own canopy, set up your own chair and start to get your own beach pedicure.
With fresh air and beach play comes hunger, and while cooking at the beach is a really fun experience all on its own, sometimes you just want to relax and point the hungry hordes towards the canopies and the ice chests while you read your book, lay in the sun, or just sit and soak it all in.
In celebration of summer, lazy days at the beach and the fact that summer is made for picnics and fun finger foods, I’ve put together 5 delicious beach-inspired recipes that will keep you and your family well fed and hydrated during your fun day at the beach.

SPICE RUBBED BBQ CHICKEN
Every picnic needs some bbq chicken, and the great thing about this recipe is that it can be grilled at home and served cold if you don’t feel like standing over a grill on the beach – or you can bring it to the beach and grill it there. Either way – easy and delicious and will result in happy picnic goers. Recipe from Crumbly Cookie.
