An Open Letter to Lego, My ValentineEva Glettner
You’re absolutely killing me. Your Star Wars sets are so well executed and detailed, they have my kids straight begging for more. One box is never enough. Like a sugar high, you grab ahold of their minds and have them obsessing over every brick.
And you never seem to reciprocate. You are constantly “retiring” fantastic sets, which then drives the prices up to a point no parent on earth can afford. These sets are quickly snatched up by “collectors” who rarely even open the boxes before they are resold again and again and again.
WHY? WHY? WHY? You shouldn’t treat us this way. You should be a giver. The AT-AT walker that my sons covet should be re-released. After all, they were barely old enough to crawl when it first came out. Let them experience the passion without the painful price tag. Just to give you an idea of how much this hurts, according to Brick Picker, there are currently 2,206,977 EBAY LEGO listings valued at a total of $69,492,704.
This love cannot continue as it is. Something needs to change. Your limited edition sets hurt my soul. There is currently ONE mini figure being bid up to 300 dollars and counting. Stop the madness.
Lego, my love, I need to know that you care about the well-being of parents everywhere. You parade your new sets at Toy Fair with absolute reckless abandon. But I know where this is going…straight to the wallet.
Help me help you. Let’s make Lego Star Wars available to the masses. Are you in?
