Healthy and Delicious Coconut Treats and SnacksCasey Mullins
If you don’t like coconut, CLICK AWAY MY FRIEND! For me coconut rules my world and the more raw, natural and basic it is the better. Lately I’ve had the opportunity to try a whole new slew of coconut treats and so I must share them with my fellow coconut lovers and health (coco)nuts. The best part about all of these treats? They’re actually healthy! Most of them (if not all) are organic, raw, vegan, non-GMO, dairy free, gluten free and paleo friendly. (WHOO.) Truth: Until these treats came into my life I believed that the only way coconut could be delicious was on top of a Girl Scout cookie. Then I learned the more basic the coconut? The better. I had a raw young coconut in the Cayman Islands and while it could have easily made this list, the shipping would be a little ridiculous.
The two boxes I mention, Conscious Box and Healthy Surprise, are mail order subscription boxes that bring gluten-free, raw, vegan and soy free treats to your front door each month. It’s a fantastic way to find new snacks without being committed to a whole box of something that may be kind of nasty. (Honestly? Some of the things have been pretty nasty. Vegan chocolate with raisins? Just say no.)
If you’re not aware of the health benefits of coconut, you can brush up on them here.
Conscious Box 1 of 7About $12 month depending on the subscription option you choose. Not as many snacks, more nutritional supplements like chia and hemp seeds as well as mints and nut butters.
Healthy Surprise Box 2 of 7Starting at $33/month. Contains a minimum of 16-20 servings of gluten free, vegan, dairy free and soy free snacks.
Cocomojoe Joebar 3 of 7I got one of these in my most recent Healthy Surprise box and whoa. DELICIOUS. It kind of looked like a bar of exfoliating soap, but it certainly didn't taste like one. I tried the fig and can't wait to try several of the other 6 available flavors (cocoa, coffee, cranberry, fig, green, mango.) Cocomo Joe also makes granola and popcorn (POPCORN!) with coconut sugar, coconut oil and coconut nectar.
Organic, vegan, gluten free, raw, paleo. (Perfect)
Buy it from Cocomo Joe: Box of 12 $30
Coco-Roons Cookies 4 of 7Another treat in this month's Conscious Box, Coco-Roons come in 5 different flavors and while I've only tried the Vanilla Maple, I'm hooked (I don't even like maple!) These are bigger and more substantial than the Hail Merry Macaroons but every bit as tasty. These ones really are more like cookies, a little crumbly while the macaroons are chewier.
Gluten free, dairy free, raw, 95% organic
Buy it from Coco-Roons: $7.99 per bag. Available in Apple Pie, Lemon Pie, Vanilla Maple, Cacao Nib, Strawberry Almond
Dang Coconut Chips 5 of 7I found these during a layover at JFK and inhaled the entire bag. Crunchy, sweet, fantastic texture and not enough in my snack size bag. Back home again in Indiana I have dreamed of them daily, I'm constantly on the lookout for them at local markets, cafes and delis. So far no luck, which means a special delivery for me!
Gluten free, vegan, dairy free, cholesterol free, no MSG.
Buy it from Amazon: 12 pack for $59.99 or Goodies.co for $4.99/bag
Taste Nirvana Coconut Water 6 of 7You probably think all coconut water tastes the same but YOU WOULD BE WRONG. My friend Leah introduced me to Taste Nirvana Coconut Water with pulp while I was in San Diego and my life is forever changed. Most coconut water is a little slimy, milky and meh, Taste Nirvana? Crisp, cool, sweet and almost a little vanilla-y. I prefer the kind with pulp, but for those of you who don't like to chew your beverages, a non pulp version is also available. Often imitated, NEVER duplicated.
Buy it from Amazon: With Pulp or Without Pulp: 12/ 16.2 oz cans for $26.99
Hail Merry Macaroons 7 of 7The chocolate macaroons came in my first Conscious Box and at first I thought they looked less than promising and to be honest, like piles of kitty poo (sorry, just being honest) but after eating one (then the whole bag (over a week)) these little tasty morsels are delightfully addictive and have the best dark chocolate flavor. I preferred them cold, which is what is suggested on the bag to maintain freshness.
Gluten free, raw, vegan, kosher, non GMO.
Buy it from Hail Merry: 8 bag case (4 chocolate/4 blonde or 8 of one flavor) $39.99
