I have to admit that the way I dress and look matters a lot to me and it always has. I’ve always lived by the adage of “dress for success” and truly believe that first impressions do count.
Yes, that does mean that I spend more in my clothes than I should, but still within my means. Plus, I consider it an investment in my career because the way I feel with certain clothes on helps me project confidence and a feeling of being comfortable in my own skin.
There’s no doubt that being judged by the clothes we wear is definitely superficial, and being comfortable with your own skin always starts from the inside. Working out, meditating, making time for loving moments with yourself and others, nurturing you passions and facing your fears head on are essential for feeling good about yourself day in and day out. Really, no matter how awesome your outfit, you won’t be able to impress if there’s not an authentic smile to match it, and that smile must come from within.
But, even if you’ve got that inner zen mastered — and the simple idea is that you’re always on the path towards it, rarely ever completely mastered — you know that a pair of great-fitting jeans — like the muffin-top concealing and flattering Levi’s Skinny Mid-Rise –, or a flattering dress with pockets to boot, can make you stand taller and just feel relaxed.
Note, that I’m not talking about dressing in yoga pants or baggy clothes to feel “comfortable,” but about feeling stunning, beautiful, and totally comfortable with what you project from the inside out. The beauty, is that you definitely can have it both ways. How?
#1. Find your own and unique style and own it
#2. Own a killer pair of power heels that go well with anything, elongate your body, give you a feeling of presence and status and are also comfortable. Yes, it is possible.
#3. Search for the perfect pair of jeans, in a wash that can take you from comfy to chic, and in a length that can handle both flats and heels. Mine? Levi’s Skinny Mid-Rise.
#4. Own a dress in a color that gives you confidence and makes a statement. Being bold and feeling great about it is a great confidence-booster.
#5. Own a little black dress (or just a black dress) that is simple, yet brings out the best in your body. Accessorize and/or add bold heels in any color to make it match your mood any day.
Now it’s your turn? How do you dress to be comfortable in your own skin?
