One Day at Disneyland

photo(19)In May I received an email asking if I wanted to spend the day at Disneyland. Now, you might thank that I, being so very childless, would not want to spend an entire day at the happiest place on Earth… and you would be wrong. You see, I LOVE DISNEYLAND.

Fun fact: When I was hired to write for Babble, my first thought was, “When do I get to go to Disneyland?! HUH HUH HUH?!” Because DISNEYLAND. So, when the opportunity arose for me to spend what would have been a typical workday at my desk at Cars Land? I hopped on the first flight to LAX.

“Isn’t it going to be weird?” a friend asked due to the aforementioned childlessness. It wasn’t. And after, “Well, how was it? What’s it like without kids?” Is there some rule that I am unaware of where people can only go to a Disney spot if they have a person under 3 feet with them? It was a perfect day and evening and let’s just say that without children it’s easier to enjoy the wine bar at California Adventure.

Ok. Fine. There was one child, but she does not belong to me. This means that I could take a cute photo of her with a princess and then three hours later when she wanted to go on an Ariel ride I was like, Um. No. Bye. She was an excellent sport and well-behaved and adorable.

Every two feet I would stop and take a photo because everything was so pretty and magical and this is how they get you, isn't it?

Inside Fantasy Faire. Again with the photos of the everything because princesses. I would make an excellent four-year-old.

This is when I was like, Jen let's go on a ride. And Jen was all, but I don't like fast things. And I was like, BUT I'M LONELY. RIDE WITH ME. And she was like, OK fine. So we did the Matterhorn. I had enough excitement for the both of us.

  • Radiator Springs Racers 5 of 10

Radiator Springs Racers is the first thing I suggest to anyone who is going to Disneyland. And Cars Land is like walking through the movie and I've never even seen the movie but that's what I've heard. Anyway, go on this ride. You will not regret it.

It wasn't necessarily my first choice of a ride that I would like to go on but this was the part of the day when I was with two three year olds (The other belonged to this lady) so I was like, what the heck. I'll take one for the team.

Here's a gratuitous photo of Mike and Annie on the Dumbo ride because it's cute.

When you don't have children with you at Disneyland you can go on insane roller coasters which are awesome and make you pee your pants while going upside down.

California Adventure has a wine bar. As we were leaving the wine bar the waitstaff offered me a to-go cup and then I realized that this is definitely the happiest place on earth.

Watching World of Color is like watching every Disney movie ever made and it's such a nice way to end the day.

To recap: I went to Disneyland. It was fun. I’d go with or without children. You should go, too. The end.
