When I was growing up, I didn’t think my name (Lacy) sounded very grown-up, because it wasn’t “fancy” enough. I thought other names just seemed to carry more weight. Of course, now that I’m an adult with children of my own, my name doesn’t bother me one bit.
If you’re looking for “fancy” baby names for girls, however — maybe ones that are even slightly old-fashioned — here are 25 of my favorites. As with any name, you’ve also got to have a nickname picked out, so I’ve included some ideas for those, too. Enjoy!
This is my first daughter’s name. (And my middle name!) We call her Addie for short.
This is my second daughter’s name. Isn’t it beautiful? Like a classy actress or something! She goes by Iggy for short. (Long story!)
This is the name of our third daughter. Again, it sounds like it came straight from Hollywood. Her sisters like to call her Marge.
A friend of mine just had a baby and gave her this name. She goes by Minnie! Isn’t that the cutest?!
Definitely an old-fashioned name. Winnie (Jimmy Fallon’s daughter’s name!) would be a cute nickname.
This was on our list of names we liked during my last pregnancy. The nickname Penny is also cute.
Such a fancy name! Flo or Flora would be great nicknames.
Talk about a name that comes straight from a fancy time period! Vicki or Tori are shorter forms of Victoria.
This one’s perfect if you’re a Shakespeare lover. Julie is a beautiful nickname, too.
Here’s another name we considered for our daughters. Very fancy and frilly! Ellie for short.
This is one of the most popular names out there, and you can use Maddie for short.
Beatriz isn’t a name you hear every day, but it’s a pretty one. Bea is a common nickname for Beatriz.
Selena is a pretty sounding name. Lena is beautiful, as well.
Most girls with the name Charlie are actually named Charlotte. Lottie is another cute version.
I LOVE this name, but my husband wasn’t as fond of it. I know a Scarlett that goes by Carley for short.
This name is frilly, for sure! Ceci is a cute nickname.
Esther is a biblical name, and it’s one that I’m starting to hear more of. Essie is a sweet nickname.
One of my best friends named her daughter Everly. Isn’t it so sweet? Ever is a cute shortened version.
Lillian is very girly, if that’s what you’re looking for. Lily is also a name we often hear.
To me, this name sounds very grown-up! Ellie or Nor would also make cute nicknames.
The name Evelyn is fancy, too. I love the nickname Evie.
I happen to love this one, even though it’s quite unique. Gen is a good nickname.
This is one of the Disney fairies’ names! Rose or Rosie are pretty nicknames to use.
I’ve always thought this was a pretty name, as is the nickname Josie.
Okay, I’m not the biggest fan of Mildred — but Milly, I love.
