10 Nursing Pillows to Make Breastfeeding More Comfortable

When I got pregnant for the first time three years ago, I really only knew of one breastfeeding pillow. Unfortunately, I didn’t love the first one we bought.

Since then I’ve tried no less than six different types myself and found many more that other moms liked. I quickly learned that all nursing pillows are not created equal. Some work better for travel, while others fit larger women more comfortably.

10 Nursing Pillows to Consider 1 of 12
Classic Boppy Pillow 2 of 12
One of the most well known nursing pillows out there is the Boppy. Since coming out with an updated version I now call this an old school Boppy. When I was pregnant with my first baby, everyone told me I needed this is I was planning to breastfeed. So I bought one. This classic crescent shaped pillow may work for some moms, but it wasn't ideal for us. It continues to popular and highly rated. The best part is all the gorgeous slip covers available.
New Improved Boppy Pillow 3 of 12
As more innovative shapes and designs come out to fit nursing mothers of all sizes, Boppy reinvented their classic breastfeeding pillow. The new Boppy pillow is more of a U-shape with a wider opening for the waist and a strap to go behind mom's back. The strap can help keep the pillow close to your body and may prevent gaping issues. This pillow also offers two different textures on either side: soft or firm. I have not had the opportunity to try this one yet.
LeachCo Cuddle-U Nursing Pillow 4 of 12
Now this is a breastfeeding pillow I've never seen or heard of before, but I thought it looked like an interesting choice! Plus it has a high number of positive reviews on Amazon so there are plenty of mamas who like it. The LeachCo Cuddle-U pillow is crescent shaped and offers support for your arms and your baby. What I found really unique was the seat wrap when using it to prop baby up. It helps keep them in place instead of sliding or rolling off it. The seat part can be tucked away when using it for feeding.
Comfort and Harmony Mombo Pillow 5 of 12
The Comfort & Harmony Mombo pillow is a U-shaped pillow that features a firmer side and a softer side. Its unique feature is a removable vibrating pod. Besides offering support at feeding time, this pillow may also be used for propping baby up in a sitting position while on the floor. Some of their slip covers have those irresistible satin Taggies that baby love so much. (Or at least my son loves the tags!)
My Brest Friend Breastfeeding Pillow 6 of 12
The My Brest Friend pillow secures around your waist with padding in the back to assist with back support and comfort. The pillow is large enough to rest your arms and elbows on it as well. It is a popular pillow with high ratings on Amazon. I've used their Deluxe version myself and found it to fit my larger size.
Gia Angled Nursing Pillow 7 of 12
The Gia Angled Nursing Pillow is unique by not laying baby flat. The pillow rests at an angle which can assist with reflux issues baby may have. It curves around your waist but does not go completely around like other crescent shaped pillows do. This pillow is machine washable too. One downside is the need to flip the pillow over when switching sides, but otherwise it is a very comfortable pillow in my experience.
Kushies Nursing Pillow 8 of 12
This Kushies pillow is contoured to fit against your body and tall enough to position baby to latch. The pillow is made with a strong foam which supports baby without them sinking into it. Convenient to use and place on your lap without fussing with a strap. Small enough for easy traveling too. (Note: I have not used this pillow.)
JJ Cole Feeding Pillow 9 of 12
This feeding and nursing pillow by JJ Cole is contoured to fit against your body and tall enough to support baby's positioning. The smaller size makes it a good option when breastfeeding in narrower chairs. Its also a good travel size. Based on several Amazon reviews it sounds ideal for newborn and smaller babies but not large enough for bigger babies. The product description does state a 35 pound weight limit. (Note: I have not used this pilow.)
San Diego Bebe Eco-nursing Pillow 10 of 12
The San Diego Bebe Eco-nursing Pillow by Double Blessings is soft, supportive and made from eco-friendly materials. Its unique features include an edge around the pillow and a connected breastfeeding cover. They also have larger pillows made for nursing twins. There is a belt that goes around your back to help keep it in position. When I tried one of these I found the belt too short for my plus sized waist.
Peek Away Travel Pillow 11 of 12
While I love big comfy breastfeeding pillows at home, they aren't the most travel friendly. Peek Away offers a 4-in-1 nursing kit that has a nursing pillow, nursing cover, wipes case and changing pad all in one easy to carry pack. In my experience it doesn't replace a diaper bag or a regular feeding pillow, but it's great to keep in the car.
Honorable Mention Utterly Yours Breast Pillow 12 of 12
While not technically a nursing pillow, the Utterly Yours wedge is literally a breast pillow. It can be used to help position the breast at a better height for baby. Some women, like me, with larger breasts have improvised with rolled up washcloths or receiving blankets, but this is another option to assist with positioning.
