Over the past week Grayson hasn’t been well so we have really been taking it easy and laying low. One of Grayson’s favorite things is board books. If you put him on the rug and surround him with books and toys, the first thing he goes to play with his books. He loves turning the pages with his little hands. He loves listening to us to read to him. His sisters love to snuggle him and read them too. Every night before bed part of our bedtime routine has always been reading a few books, I’m glad Grayson can enjoy this with us too.
We are book lovers in our home so I wasn’t surprised when Grayson followed along in our steps. After all, we practically have a mini-library in our home from buying children’s books for the last 10 years. But, he does have his favorites and a few he always seems to reach for when it’s time to read.
Take a look at just what books Grayson has in his library. You’ll find 15 of my favorite must-read board books for baby.
1. Chugga Chugga Choo Choo by Kevin Lewis
The train-lover in your life will love Chugga Chugga Choo Choo! It encourages kids to get excited about starting the day and makes for the perfect read-along — just ask Chelsea Clinton! The mom of two admitted at the Democratic National Convention to reading this sweet story to her daughter each night over Facetime.
2. Pajama Time by Sandra Boynton
Sandra Boynton is an all-time favorite in our house. But Pajama Time is one of those books you’ll catch yourself singing from time to time.
3. Dear Zoo by Rod Campbell
Grayson is fascinated as we lift the flaps to see what animal we will find. He loves trying to do it himself too! With over 2 million copies sold, Dear Zoo is sure to be a favorite.
4. Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown
An all-time classic favorite for all ages, Goodnight Moon is my favorite bedtime book. It is such a sweet story and I know every word by heart.
5. Be Careful, Friend! by Natalie Shaw
Grayson loves looking through the bright colored pages with the fun characters he knows from his favorite television show. This is one of his favorite books he constantly is looking through.
6. My First Baby Animals by DK Publishing
Passed down from his sisters collection, My First Baby Animals is filled with lots of pictures for those little eyes. With simple words it encourages him to listen as we point to each picture.
7. Where Is Baby’s Belly Button? by Karen Katz
Another book from author favorite Karen Katz, is a fun one to interact as you read and lift the flaps. Perfect for teaching kids to learn about their own bodies!
8. Guess How Much I Love You by Sam McBratney
Another classic book all about a parent’s love for a child. It is such a heart-warming classic and a book everyone should add to their collection. You can read it for years to come, starting from the womb.
9. On the Night You Were Born by Nancy Tillman
With words like, “On the night you were born, you brought wonder and magic to the world. The moon stayed up till morning. Polar bears danced,” this book truly touches your heart. Grayson just listens as I read it as if he taking it all in — every word.
10. In My Pond by Sara Gillingham
We love the layered die-cut pages because they are so much fun as you take a peek at the colorful things inside. Your little one is sure to love the little fish on the cover.
11. Trucks by Byron Barton
Because what little boy doesn’t love a book about trucks. This baby touch and feel book is perfect for little hands to explore each page.
12. The Napping House by Audrey Wood
I remember reading this to my sister when she was little and it was always a favorite of mine. The beautifully illustrated pictures go along with such a fun little story that you really can get into as you read it. I truly think Grayson loves listening to this one while his sisters listen along.
13. The Little House by Virginia Lee Burton
The Little House, winner of the Caldecott Medal in 1942, is a book from my childhood. I always loved the rosy-pink Little House on the hill in between the perfectly trimmed apple trees.
14. We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
Another favorite from my childhood, I just love the alternating black and white and color illustrations. With every page you turn, there is always so much for Grayson to look at while I read.
15. Goodnight Gorilla by Peggy Rathmann
Good Night Gorilla has always made me giggle. Different from other board books, the rich colors really shine. It’s a sweet, funny and eye-catching little book — all great things for a book baby will love. We have the lap-sized board book edition and Grayson enjoys looking at all of the great colors.
