8 Ways To Dress Up Your Denim

8 Ways To Dress Up Your Denim at BabbleA good pair of jeans is a staple in most moms’ wardrobes, but sometimes it can be a challenge to figure out how to wear them without falling into the jeans-and-a-t-shirt-everyday rut. Sometimes you want to look more polished, but you still want comfort, so what’s a mama to do?

Well, when I’m not blogging here I freelance as a wardrobe stylist and I’ve found that there are a number of ways to dress up your denim – you needn’t sacrifice comfort for style! Now that I’ve found my favorite pair of jeans, it’s time to pair them with some fun fall trends!

Check out 8 ways you can dress up your denim after the jump!

  • Add a button-up 1 of 8
    Add a button-up
Nothing dresses up a pair of jeans quite like a simple button-up. Throwing it on under a slouchy sweater is one of my favorite looks for fall and is a simple way to elevate your basics.
APC Classic Pullover ($185.00) buy it at Frances May
  • Throw on a cape 2 of 8
    Throw on a cape
Even though I don't actually have one, I'm sort of obsessed with capes and this one is a fabulous way to follow the trend while choosing something classic that won't be outdated after one season. The classic lines and simple black wool would add a bit of drama to your denim basics and unless you take it off, you can wear whatever top you want underneath!
Cole Haan Detailed Wool Cape (price unavailable) buy it at Saks Fifth Avenue
  • Wear lace 3 of 8
    Wear lace
Lace is one of those things that can add instant polish and femininity to an outfit. Granted, this particular lace top is obscenely expensive and I would never actually spend this much on a top, but I love the idea of its clean lines and it's unexpected green color. It (or something similar and less expensive) would be the perfect addition to your favorite jeans.
MSGM Lace Top ($525.00) buy it at Nordstrom
  • Put on your favorite blazer 4 of 8
    Put on your favorite blazer
I love the idea of blazers, but they can be a bit stuffy, so try adding a colorful version with unexpected detailing to ramp up your denim uniform. I love the slightly "Sgt. Pepper-esque" look of this one.
Ponte Academy Blazer ($88.00) buy it at Gap
  • Add sparkle 5 of 8
    Add sparkle
A simple top with a fancy jeweled collar like this one is a great way to make your denim ensemble look a bit more special. Collars are a big trend for fall and you can even find accessory collars to throw on over the tops you already own!
Topshop Embellished Collar Top ($76.00) buy it at Nordstrom
  • Change it up with a leather jacket 6 of 8
Change it up with a leather jacket
A leather jacket is a great investment piece that you can own for years to come, so choose one that you love. I adore the slouchy undone feel of this jacket and I think it's a softer, fresh take on the trend. It would be great with your cutest jeans!
Trouvé Cascade Leather Jacket ($298.00) buy it at Nordstrom
  • Fancy it up with heels 7 of 8
    Fancy it up with heels
Heels are an obvious way to dress up your denim, but now that I'm a mom, heels aren't always practical for my run-around-carrying-a-baby lifestyle. So, in order to make heels more doable, it's time to stop buying cheap ones that hurt my feet and invest in a pair that are quality with a classic, yet modern look that will withstand the test of time in my closet. I love theses ones!
Sigerson Morrison Blue Suede Heels ($395.00) buy it at Piper Lime
  • If all else fails, add lipstick 8 of 8
If all else fails, add lipstick
Even wearing just jeans and a t-shirt, there is something about a pretty shade of lipstick that can be completely transformative. I love a bright pink and this one by MAC is my favorite.
MAC "Impassioned" Lipstick ($15.00) buy it at MAC Cosmetics
