Jumperoo vs. Exersaucer – Which One Do I Want?Emily Malone
I have always claimed that I would not be one of those parents who covered her house in large plastic items with blinking lights and ringing bells. And here I am four months in, looking for just that.
Cullen is in a stage where he is no longer happy on his back, but can only handle his tummy for ten or so minutes at a time. His favorite activity is to stand on my lap and jump up and down. I’m realizing that it’s time we get one of the giant bouncing contraptions.
But on first glance through Amazon – there are SO many options! Jumperoo? Exersaucer? Johnny Jump Up? My condo (and budget!) is small, and I can only get one. But which one do I want?
My understanding is that the Jumperoo has springs and is something the baby bounces in, and the Exersaucer is more of a spinning seat with toys with a solid piece to stand on underneath. I’m definitely not interested in anything hanging from a doorway – scary!
There is also the nagging thought in my mind that perhaps I shouldn’t get one at all. I have also read theories that jumping and standing activity centers can inhibit a baby’s interest in crawling and walking. Obviously that’s the last thing I want to see happen.
How did you moms reconcile getting one of these? Any and all advice is more than appreciated!
