My Baby Likes Gangster Rap

I think Fern might need this onesie.

My baby loves gangster rap.  The really gritty stuff.  The kind of rap that (as my husband so aptly puts it) “makes you feel like you need a shower after you listen to it”.

We stumbled upon this fact during one of her crying fits in the car.  I think it’s something to do with the thumping bass, but whatever the case she loves it.  If I change the station, she knows and cries until I turn the station back.  It’s like lyrical magic.

The only problem with this is…well…gangster rap isn’t exactly baby friendly.

At some point Fern is going to be able to understand the lyrics to these songs at which point I’ll probably have to come up with an alternative…but what?  I refuse to listen to non-stop kid songs.  Maybe I can upgrade her to the lullaby version of Jay-Z?

When I was a kid I listened to “grown-up music”.  I still remember rocking out to the tunes of 80’s Madonna with my aunt as a wee one and I turned out ok, so maybe “grown up music” isn’t all that bad?

What kind of music do you listen to with your baby?  Any suggestions for rap that is a little less gritty, but still has plenty of bass for baby’s liking?
