When I was a new mom, I used to hear all the time how much more fun it was to dress a girl. I had only one boy at the time and when I looked at all the frilly and adorable dresses hanging on the store racks, I wondered — was I missing out on something?
I very quickly realized that, no — boy clothes and accessories are just as adorable as the frilly, tulle girl outfits, but in a different way. For me, there was something about seeing this little boy dressed in a similar way as his dad that just amped up the cuteness factor.
It’s been about eight years since that first wonder, and with two boys and two girls being added to the family, I can safely say shopping for boys and girls are equally fun, but for slightly different reasons. It’s been fun lately shopping for Silver — especially now that the weather is getting better (hello, sun!) and he’s big enough to wear the outfits that aren’t too pajama-like.
If you’re on the hunt for summer must-haves for a boy – for your own or a friend/family member’s – here are my summertime picks for little boys 6 months old and under:
Hats are important for babies when they’re out in the sun, which means it’s a must-have for the summertime. So far my son doesn’t have a problem keeping a hat on his head, and if he was wearing one of these, I’m sure no babe would want to take it off.
1. Reversible airplane hat, Etsy – WeeDees, $30.22
2. Straw fedora, Old Navy, $12.94
Going outside during the summer is kind of a must, and there are plenty of toys that will make outside even more fun for baby. Of course you have to make sure they’re sun protected, but even in the shade these toys are the best.
1. Sunsmart baby hideaway pool, Toys R Us, $17.99
2. Jumbo dump truck, Target, $19.99
I love choosing clothes for my little boy, and while there’s no frills, the simplicity of many clothes is what makes them so lovable. Clothes for baby boys look so adult-like and similar to “real people” clothes, which is what I love so much about them.
1. Plaid poplin rompers for baby, Old Navy, $16.94
2. Campsite crew, Carter’s, $8-$16
I plan to take Silver to the beach for the first time this summer, and I can’t wait to see how much he loves the water – because he will. It’s something we love to do a few times each summer and baby swimsuits make it all worth it.
1. 4th of July rash guard set, Carter’s, $17.99
2. Whale swim diaper, Target, $9.99
Do you and your family have any fun summer plans?
