What’s On Your Baby’s Playlist?Rebecca from Fosterhood
I’m in the midst of creating music playlists for my [almost] adopted daughter, Clementine who is 4 months old, and for my foster daughter “Sandy” who is 8 months old. I’m looking for songs that are both fun to bounce to and represent the times. One day I they will look back at their playlists and laugh, cringe or love it. A one-hit wonder artist is a must.
This photo is my previous foster daughter’s playlist from 2011. She was with me for 17 months (aged 19 months to 3 years) before she returned to her family. It’s all over the place, I know, but she absolutely loved these songs.
It’s pretty easy to tell what music Sandy and Clementine like. I put on a rotation of songs and whenever Sandy turns to me and smiles, I know she’s digging it. Clementine’s tell is when she starts to kick her legs like a maniac. I do a second test by putting their appeared favorite song back into rotation. If they respond again, I add it to their playlist. I’m not a fan of all of their music choices, but all the more to tease them when they get older.
So far on Sandy’s playlist is Robin Thicke’s “Blurred Lines”, the Banana Boat Song (Day-O), and Mumford and Sons “The Cave”. Pretty standard tap-your-feet fare. Clementine LOVES Macklemore’s “Thrift Shop”. Maybe it’s the little girl’s voice on the track?
I think I have a few more months before we have to submit to “The Itsy Bitsy Spider” and “Row, Row, Row Your Boat”. Any suggestions for my new daughters? What’s on your baby’s playlist?
