Beauty DIY: Flaxseed GelTamara Floyd
Flaxseed hair gel is a natural, inexpensive hair gel. It works especially well for curly or wavy hair to define and moisturize curls without creating stiffness or crunchiness. Many additional ingredients can be added to homemade flaxseed gel to customize it for the particular needs of your hair. Flaxseed gel is also a great alternative styling product for those allergic to mainstream or traditional hair products. This simple DIY hair product recipe can be made in 10 minutes or less.
Flaxseed gel lasts about two weeks refrigerated, or longer with added preservatives. You can also freeze it for later use.
You can find various recipes, but you only really need two ingredients: water and flaxseeds. The flaxseeds themselves do all the work for you.
1. Bring 1 cup of water to a boil in a small saucepan. Place 2 tablespoons of whole flaxseeds into the water and simmer for 10 minutes or until it thickens, stirring constantly.
2. Pour the mixture through a mesh sieve and into a small jar to remove all the seeds. Allow to cool.
3. Cover and store the gel in your refrigerator for up to two weeks. Use as you would store-bought hair gel.
