Now that Halloween is fast approaching and fall wedding season is in full swing, it’s an excellent time to learn how to properly apply false eyelashes. Wearing false eyelashes is a lot of fun and really makes your eyes pop. I recommend them to all brides and bridal parties, as well as anyone having professional photos taken. Strip lashes are the easiest to apply and they have come a long way. Many styles are designed to look very natural and will blend seamlessly with your own lashes. Of course, if you are looking for a bolder look or want to add lashes as part of a costume, there are plenty of more dramatic options as well. In this post, I’ll walk you through the application process followed by ten product recommendations.

Step 1. Apply Eye Makeup

There is some debate over whether eyeliner and mascara should be completed before or after false eyelashes have been applied. I prefer to do my eye makeup first because I personally believe that falsies look more natural without added mascara and I just find it easier than trying to work around the strip.

Step 2. Trim

Hold the false lash up to your lid and if you find that they are longer than your lash line, trim off the end with a small pair of grooming scissors.

Step 3. Add Adhesive

Squeeze out a small amount of eyelash adhesive onto your finger and gently drag the lash through the glue. Make sure that the entire strip is covered evenly.

Step 4. Wait

This is the most important part. You need to wait a few seconds for the glue to set a bit and become more tacky.

Step 5. Apply the Lash

I find it’s easiest to start one on the inner corner and gently press the glue-coated strip onto the lash line. Get as close to your natural lashes as possible and hold in place for a few seconds to allow the false lash to adhere.

Step 6. Curl

Press your real lashes and the fake ones together with an eyelash curler.

Step 7. Touch Up

If you need to touch up your eye makeup, do so. For example, if there are any spaces between the false lash and your real lashes, dab a little black shadow or eyeliner in the space to conceal the gap.
