They Say it Looks Pretty on All of Us but, IS Purple Eyeshadow Right For You?

Flipping through the latest issue of Redbook magazine, page 39 states that “Purple shadow is pretty on all of us. It brightens every eye color and can go from subtle {sheer} to sultry {dramatic}”

And I wondered, IS purple pretty on all of us? Is it right for me?

I rarely wear purple eyeshadows against my pale or even tanned summer skin and blue eyes. Logically, and based on the color wheel and color principles, oranges and coppers and browns and neutrals work best to make my blue eyes pop. And since I tend to lean towards natural colors for daily wear, purple seems like a bright and flashy alternative that I’d maybe save for evening wear. And according to the color wheel, purple’s complimentary color is gold or yellow, which leads me to think that hazel eyes, olive tones and darker skins look best with purple shadows.

But the more I thought about it, flashbacks to my youth and warm Summers in the 80’s, wearing my favorite purple one-piece bathing suit with a ruffle across the top and little white polka-dots, always made my blue eyes appear purple. Could a sweep of purple shadow across my lids do the same?

Maybe Redbook is right? Maybe purple DOES brighten every eye color and look pretty on all of us. I think I’ll have to give it a try, will you?

From light to dark, sheer to sultry, here are a few purple eyeshadows and eyeliners to try…
