My Favorite Drugstore Shampoo & Conditioner for Dry Summer Hair

Along with living in a much dryer climate than my hair is used to, Summer is here {WOO!} and suddenly my old standby shampoo and conditioner {Dove Color Care, among others} just weren’t cutting it anymore. And rather than shop online for an expensive alternative, I went to my local drugstore {Rite Aid} to test a few new products out.

Surprised, because I thought it was mostly sold at beauty supply stores, I found Keratin Complex Color Care shampoo and conditioner and Organix Repairing Awaphuhi Ginger shampoo and conditioner and because they had the words “smoothing” and “repairing” in their descriptions, I brought them both home with me.

Now, I’m known for mixing my shampoos and conditioners together to get a better result {because it TOTALLY WORKS}, and that’s exactly what I did and fell in love with the results. I squeeze a little of both the shampoos in my hand, mix and apply, rinse and then do the same with the conditioners; mix and apply, and then let it sit in my hair until the end of my shower when I rinse it out.

They’re somehow softening my overall hair texture without weighing it down as most “smoothing and repairing” products do, which is great because it still holds a curl. Now I can’t vouch for one working better than the other, because I use them both at the same time, but their components seem to work together really well. So well, that I’ll be buying them both again as soon as I run out.

And while I’m obsessed with cutting my hair shoulder length and styling it Ý  la my 90”²s Hair Inspiration | Big Shoulder Dusting Tresses, I haven’t had a chance to make an appointment with my stylist. But I’ve been getting such great results from the new shampoos and conditioners that I don’t even mind my 2-1/2″ roots showing. My waves have been extra bouncy too. To get the waves you see in my photos below go to my Soft Waves Hair Tutorial {but I’m using this hot tools iron instead of the wand shown there}.
