My 5 Favorite Hair Products for Summer

Well hello!  I’m new here at Babble and a little nervous … I feel like it’s my first day of high school all over again!  Luckily I’m no longer 15 and this is way cooler than being in high school!  My name is Abby and I’m a 26-year-old mother of two. I live in Gig Harbor, Washington, with my family and blog about beauty and fashion at Twist Me Pretty.  Most people know me for my hairstyle book on Amazon: The Ultimate Hairstyle Handbook. If you’re a lover of hair and all things pretty, it’s a book you’ve gotta have! Anyway, super happy to be here. Let’s get to it, shall we?!

So it’s summertime. Yeah, you’ve noticed? The gorgeous weather … the long days at the beach and in the pool. The dry, brittle hair … er … what!? Yikes! All this heat is stressing my tresses! The sun and water can be so damaging, leading to faded color, split ends and super dry, brittle hair. It’s so depressing because there’s really no better time than right now to show off those luscious shiny locks!

I’ve compiled five of my must-have hair products and tools that’ll help keep those locks hydrated and healthy all summer long.

  • My Favorite Products for Summer 1 of 6
  • Bumble and Bumble Leave In Conditioner 2 of 6

If you've been out in the sun and have forgotten to protect your hair, you can still give it the nourishment it needs. This lightweight conditioner will turn your dry, angry summer hair into pure yumminess. It can be rinsed out or used as a leave-in hair conditioner for a styling aid that's made to moisturize, tame frizz, and soften your hair without weighing it down. The scent isn't too strong, and it's perfect for those with sensitive skin. Made from ingredients such as panthenol (pro-vitamin b5), elder flower extract and wheat germ glycerides, this is a perfect conditioner for all hair types. Leave In {Rinse Out} Conditioner from Bumble and Bumble | $24.00

  • The Paddlebrush 3 of 6

This is a simple little tool that will not only help you detangle your hair, but it can also massage the scalp and stimulate growth. If that's not enough, a paddle brush can help distribute product evenly throughout your hair and it will also reduce stress to the hair when blowing out. I highly recommend using a paddle brush all year long, but especially in the summer months, when styling wet hair seems to occur more often. 'Cause you know, wet hair is super vulnerable to breakage. Be gentle to that wet hair, girls! Sephora Collection Paddle Brush | $22

  • Coconut Oil 4 of 6

Coconut oil is the perfect hydrating oil. Ever. It penetrates the hair shaft to repair your hair from the inside out. To make your own hair repair treatment, scoop out a handful of organic virgin coconut oil and warm it up in your hands for a couple seconds. Next, massage it into your hair, flipping your head upside down and slowly spreading the oil through your hair, saturating your hair completely. Then pull your hair up and stick a plastic bag over your head. You'll look super cute, but it'll just give you a good excuse to pop some popcorn and watch a movie! Leave it on a couple hours or even overnight and then wash and and style your hair like normal. For best results, apply heat from your blow dryer for thirty minutes to let the hair shaft really open. You'll be amazed at how soft and smooth your hair will feel. Do this treatment once a week for best results! Nutiva Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil | $17.99

  • Suave Dry Shampoo 5 of 6

We've all heard by now that daily hair washing is a big no-no. Washing your hair daily will strip it of its natural oils that help strengthen your hair. If those greasy roots are getting in the way, though try dry shampoo. This stuff is cheap, it smells delish, and it'll help you go a couple more days in-between washings.  The longer you can go, the better off your hair will be. Just trust me on this one, mmk? Suave Dry Shampoo | $3.99

  • Bumble and Bumble’s Hairdresser’s Invisible Oil 6 of 6

This stuff is ahhh-mazing. It's a heat protectant and anti-frizz serum. If your hair needs some healing, or you plan on using heat, throw a couple pumps of this stuff on your hair and you will immediately feel a difference. Make sure to use that paddle brush to evenly distribute the product too. I use this stuff even when I'm not styling with heat. It's a great product that just calms down the hair and makes it manageable. Perfect to use when you wake up with that crazy hair that needs a little tending to! Hairdresser's Invisible Oil from Bumble and Bumble | $38.00
