Color Psychology: How To Use Nail Polish To Win Friends And Influence PeopleMorgan Shanahan
There is nothing that puts me in as good of a mood as this particular color of nail polish from OPI (My Paprika Is Hotter Than Yours is it’s official name, and you can buy it for $6.25 HERE). Okay sure, my husband and daughter can also do wonders for my attitude, but there’s something about looking down at this fierce, fiery, bright, optimistic, feminine orange-y red that just gives my mood that extra kick. In fact, it’s become such a sure-fire way to brighten my day that I wondered if there might actually be something to this idea that looking at a color for long enough can help to evoke certain feelings?
It turns out, there are many schools of thought where color and moods are concerned. From Feng Shui, to Color Psychology, there’s one thing that’s globally agreed on (despite differing interpretations from school to school) color has a profound effect on us, emotionally, physically, and subconsciously.
For today’s purposes we’ll stick with Color Psychology, that is, how color affects our behavior. Or, as explained by the unequivocal authority on color, Pantone —
“Colors act upon the body as well as the mind. Red has been shown to stimulate the senses and raise the blood pressure, while blue has the opposite effect and calms the mind.
People will actually gamble more and make riskier bets when seated under a red light as opposed to a blue light. That’s why Las Vegas is the city of red neon.”
As you can see by the lovely chart I made you above, the fact that I feel cheerful and motivated when I wear that orange-y red nail polish is kind of spot on. So I figured, if it works so well for me, I might suggest a few spring colors that can help you create your own reverse mood ring of sorts, and set your spring off on the path you want it to be. (How new-age-y am I?)
