REVIEW: Conair’s NEW AdjustaCurl Root Volumizer RollersJill Seiman
My swag from the Getting Gorgeous with CVS Beauty event last month included Conair’s new AdjustaCurl Root Volumizer Rollers, which I’d been dying to try. They’re inexpensive, don’t require heat or cause damage, and well, who doesn’t want big herrr?!
Each pack comes with four flat rollers that can be easily stored and rolled into different sizes to create volume, curls or waves, and are a steal at $14.99/pack. Conair’s official claim is, “No matter what the length of your hair, the patented technology lifts hair at the roots; creates volume where you need it, without damaging backcombing or teasing.”
So do they work? Well, not for me they didn’t. *Sad face.*
I have thick hair and lots of it. I’m obsessed with volume because it’s so difficult for me to achieve and maintain. After watching this YouTube tutorial, I tried the process for a night out to see The Great Gatsby. Volume wasn’t a thing in the 20’s but never mind that. I was determined to go big!
After washing and drying my hair almost completely dry, I used three of the rollers, which were really easy to put in, although they don’t look as perfect as in the tutorial. Trust me when I tell you, if I can do it, you can do it. All I did was spray some root lifter at the root (Nexxus Hydra-Light Root Lift Mist) and hair spray (TRESemme 24-Hour Body Finishing Spray) to the three sections as I rolled them. Then I left the rollers in for about 20-25 minutes while I did my makeup and got dressed. When I pulled them out, which is also a cinch, this is what I started the night with:
Next time I will use all four rollers and on dirty hair that has a little more hold and texture. Still, I was pleased at first. Before I left for the night I sprayed on a little more hairspray and was on my way. It’s also important to note that the night I tried the rollers was particularly damp as it had rained all day. The true test came at the end of the night though. After the screening and a roaring 20’s after-party, my volume was all but gone. Here I am before bed:
Don’t judge. I had a few cocktails, ok?
The verdict: I’m not totally nixing them. If you have thick hair, you have to face the fact, as I do, that curls require heat and more than a few rollers. If you have fine hair, I definitely recommend that for $15 that you give the AdjustaCurl rollers a try and let us know how they work for you.
The Great Gatsby by the way was … great.
Have you tried the AdjustaCurl Root Volumizer Rollers? How do you best achieve volume?
