I remember as a kid living in the mountains of southern Oregon and one winter, around this time of year, we had a freak snow storm. Our long curvy driveway was covered with snow that turned to ice and our pipes froze. We were stuck on the mountain for four days with no running water. The neighbor was able to bring his tractor with jugs of water and groceries. It was so cold that all any of us wanted was soup so we made every kind of soup our pantry would allow.
