181 Seconds (at the Fast Food Drive-Thru)Sara O'Donnell
How often do you find yourself waiting in line at the fast food drive-thru? If you’re like most Americans, it’s probably more often than you’d like to admit.
A recent article in Quick Service Restaurant Magazine found that wait times at fast food drive-thrus are getting longer.
Each year, for the past 15 years, this study of drive-thru speediness is conducted with the big-boys: Burger King, Chick-fil-A, Krystal, McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Wendy’s. And every year a wild card chain is thrown into the data, this year being Taco John’s. The restaurants are rated on timeliness and accuracy to give a bigger picture of what consumers are facing when they roll down their window to order into the illuminated menu microphone.
In this video I share some of the more fascinating data from the study and my thoughts on longer drive-thru wait times. There are also some theories as to why wait times are getting longer, and service slower… what do you think the hold up is all about?
