3-Ingredient Nutella Mug Cakes

Sometimes — okay a lot of the time — we want a warm, delicious chocolate cake, but if we make the whole thing, we’ll eat it all. A simple solution to this dessert problem? Mug cakes.

With only three ingredients, including Nutella (YUM!), you’ll have an ooey gooey dessert — whether you’re gluten-free or not. This simple food hack only takes minutes to make and tastes like a gourmet cake.

Nutella Mug Cake

Makes: 2

  • 1 large egg
  • 10 tablespoons Nutella (5 tablespoons per mug)
  • 4 tablespoons all-purpose flour (2 tablespoons per mug)
  • Garnish: powdered sugar (optional)

  1. Whisk 1 large egg in a bowl and split evenly into 2 microwave safe 12-ounce mugs.
  2. Add 5 tablespoons of Nutella to each mug.
  3. Add 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to each mug. Mix with whisk until batter is smooth, note that it will be very thick.
  4. Microwave each mug separately for 1 minute. Let it cool and set for about 15 minutes to allow it to develop a chewy texture. Top with powdered sugar.

Gluten-Free Nutella Mug Cake

Makes: 1

  • 4 tablespoons Nutella
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • Garnish: powdered sugar (optional)

  1. Combine all ingredients in an oversized microwave safe mug. Mix well with a small whisk until batter is smooth and egg has been completely combined.
  2. Microwave for 1 minute and 1o seconds. Let cool and set for 15 minutes. Note that the cake may be slightly wet on top and will condense down during the cooling process. Top with powdered sugar.
