5 Go-To Vegan Food Products for Kidskathypatalsky
A friend recently told me her family had flip-flopped their eating habits and started a more meat and dairy-free routine. She confessed to me that in the past week she made kale chips and was experimenting with veggie burgers. I was curious as to what inspire her. She said that she wanted to teach her kids that they didn’t need to eat meat at every meal. Saving money using for grains, beans and veggies sounded appealing too. But after her long meatless-embracing story, she ended by saying, “But we still have those darn chicken nuggets in the freezer, and stuff like that.” I wasn’t surprised. Old habits/foods can be hard to kick to the curb – and even more so when those certain convenience foods are your kids go-to favorites. So while she may or may not have booted the frozen nuggets, I did give her this list of a few go-to, kid-approved, vegan food products..
Even if you prefer to do mostly ‘homemade’ meals and snacks for kids – sometimes you may desire a few grab-and-go- or heat-and-eat products! Here are a few to try..
Five Vegan Food Products for Kids
1. Replaces: Chicken Nuggets – Gardein Seven Grain Crispy Tenders – link
Gardein products are delicious. And these tenders are incredibly similar to chicken nuggets. However, they are totally vegan, meat free. Gardein has other ‘fake meat’ products including beefless tips, buffalo “wings” and more. I love their Mandarin Orange “Chick’n” and Chipotle Lime Crispy Fingers. Find them in the freezer section of your grocery store. I have even seen them at Target!
2. Replaces: Mac & Cheese – Roads End Organics Boxed Cheezy Mac – link
These heat-and-eat boxed cheesy pastas are big on flavor and super simple to prepare. A one-box-meal is perfect kid comfort food. And this product is vegan, dairy-free.
3. Replaces: Hot Dogs – Lightlife SmartDogs – link
Hot dogs are such an easy kid meal because you can pop them in the microwave and have a flavorful, protein-rich, satisfying plate – that kids are sure to enjoy – ready in seconds. Well you can have that same convenience in vegan form. These Smart Dogs rock.
4. Replaces: Corn Crisps – Pirate Brands Tings – link
These light and crispy corn snacks remind me of “cheetos.” I adore them and have found that kids do too.
5. Replaces: Cheddar Crackers – Eco-Planet Non-Dairy Cheddar Crackers – link
Addicted to cheddar, cheezy crackers? Square or fishy shaped? You are not alone. Kids are often served cheesy crackers and they come to love and crave that cheesy taste. Well these fun vegan crackers are cheese-less while keeping that cheesy-taste appeal and look.
