Avocados have always been an integral part of my diet. Mainly because I’m Chilean, and well, it’s true … we Latin Americans LOVE our avocados!

When my son began having solids, I was one excited mama. I still remember seeing his face when he first tasted pureed apples — it was priceless. I was very happy to see how well he responded to the foods I was giving him because it propelled me to come up with more combinations and recipes.

Naturally, avocado was on my list of foods to give him, and as the months went by I would mix it with his other foods.

Here are 10 different ways you can prepare and introduce avocado to your baby or toddler. Be warned, they WILL most likely love it, and so will you!

1. Avocado on Toast

Ingredients:

  • One piece of lightly toasted bread
  • Half an avocado, mashed with fork
  • 1-2 teaspoons of milk (for added moisture)

Directions:

Spread on toast, then cut into squares or strips.

2. Avocado and Banana

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients together. Scoop onto a tray or into a baby bowl, and enjoy!

3. Avocado and Apple

  • Half an avocado, mashed with fork
  • 1/2 cup of unsweetened applesauce (or you can boil apples and put in processor)
  • Juice from half a small lime

4. Avocado Yogurt

Ingredients:

6. Avocado and Pasta

Cut the boiled chicken breast into slices and let it cool. Then blend everything together until you get your desired consistency (smooth or chunky).

9. Avocado, White Beans, and Turkey

A Few Tips!

Each of these recipes can be pureed in a food processor for younger children.

Measurements can be adjusted as needed (more or less, depending on the age of your child).

If you make more to freeze, make sure it is in an airtight container or bag and label it with the date.
