The Academy Awards nowadays call for an Oscar-worthy cocktail recipe. It wasn’t always like this. Today, the Oscars are second only to the Super Bowl as an event that people celebrate with viewing parties, competitive predictions, and betting pools (please don’t write us with actual facts that contradict that assertion.). But I don’t remember grownups having Oscar parties when I was a kid, and it’s not like movies are more popular now then they were then. It makes sense, though, when you consider that the dreary end of February cries out for a little festivity.
And few drinks are more festive than the Brooklyn Fizz, a cocktail we are extremely proud to say we invented ourselves. Champagne, spicy ginger beer, aromatic bitters, real lemon juice, and sweet St. Germain team up for a fizzy and refreshing cocktail that will bring Hollywood sophistication to your Oscar party punch bowl.
makes 1 large punch bowl-full
2 bottles champagne or dry sparkling wine
1 cup fresh squeezed lemon juice
2 bottles real ginger beer
4 droppers full of bitters
1 cup St. Germain
mixed citrus (orange, tangerine, limes, and lemons) for ice ring and garnish
For a beautiful way to keep punch cold, follow instructions for making an ice ring here.
Set the ice ring (or cubed ice) in a large punch bowl. Combine remaining liquid ingredients, and stir. Add slices of citrus for garnish and serve.
