Brown Sugar Cinnamon Snack Mix Recipe

We had a rare snowstorm today in the South that blanketed my yard and surrounding woods with beautiful soft snow. We had the most fun playing in the snow and watching our golden retriever try to catch the snow in his mouth as it fell.  After we came in and were sitting by the fire, everyone wanted a snack. Some wanted something salty. Others wanted something sweet. So, I decided to give them all what they wanted in one snack. This was one of those “let’s see what we have in the pantry” recipes.

I got a big bowl and poured in a cup of Cheerios.

Next, I poured in a cup of brown sugar oatmeal squares cereal.

I had some mini pretzels so I thought that would add a little salty taste and more crunch to the mix. So I tossed those in.

I poured in salted cocktail peanuts, dried cranberries for the fruit we need, and mini M&Ms for that chocolate flavor we all crave. Then I stirred it all together.

I thought, now I need a syrup to hold it all together and give it a flavor burst. Aha! Brown sugar cinnamon syrup would be great.

I got out my favorite iron skillet and added butter to melt.

I added brown sugar to the butter.

Then I added the ground cinnamon and stirred it all together and let it cook til it formed a syrup.

Once the syrup was formed, I poured it over the cereal, peanuts, and pretzel mixture, stirred it thoroughly and allowed it to cool.

When the syrup was stirred into the mixture, some brown sugar cinnamon “crumbs” were formed. Oh, my. That made this even better. This snack mix was a hit with everyone. It was sweet, salty, crunchy, spicy, and just plain good!

Brown Sugar Cinnamon Snack Mix Recipe


  • 1 cup Cheerios
  • 1 cup brown sugar oatmeal squares cereal
  • 1 cup mini pretzels
  • 1/2 cup cocktail peanuts
  • 1/2 cup dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup mini M&Ms
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup butter


  • Pour Cheerios, oatmeal squares cereal, pretzels, peanuts, cranberries, and M&Ms into a large bowl.  Stir well.
  • Place butter in skillet over medium heat.
  • Add brown sugar and cinnamon. Cook til light syrup is formed.
  • Pour syrup over cereal mixture and stir well.
  • Let cool and serve.
