Carmelized Onion, Ham & Gruyere Cheese Pizza

Wait, don’t go anywhere. I promise that you do not need to be intimidated by this pizza. Seeing that Friday night is pizza night for many American families, I thought I would offer a recipe for the times you have a few minutes to make an pizza to remember.

Yes, it takes time to caramelize onions but to save some time we are using a premade pizza shell and deli ham.  Plus, there are so many ways to use the tasty caramelized onions that it makes the process a rewarding investment….

Once you make of batch of caramelized onions, you can store them in an air-tight container for several days. They are amazing on sandwiches, salads, and pasta dishes. Did you know you can freeze them as well for the next time you crave the sweet nutty flavor? Simply place them in muffins tins, pop them in the freezer and once frozen, place them in a freezer bags or container.

Caramelized Onion, Ham & Gruyere Cheese Pizza
1 pizza shell
1/2 cup caramelized onions
2 slices thick ham, chopped
1/3 cup Gruyere cheese, shredded

Once the onions are caramelized (see below), simply distribute them evenly on the pizza shell (try find one made without hydrogenated oils) and top with the ham.  Then scatter cheese over the pizza and bake according to the instructions on the pizza shell.  Plus, if you toss some pineapple chunks on as well, you have an amazing Hawaiian pizza.
