Foods Fit for a Prince and Princessjack
When my brother and sister-in-law got engaged, I joked the entire year that their wedding would be on par with Princess Diana and Prince Charles. And then of course, the weekend of their union, I referred to it as the royal wedding. How many of you know what I’m talking about? Those weddings that kick off with a weekend-long engagement party followed by bridal showers in different states and topped off with a weekend-long wedding. You know you’ve been to at least one of them. Now that there really is a royal wedding on the horizon, thanks to Wills and Kate, my brother is off the hook. All the events and announcements and parties will pale in comparison to what the Royal family and the Middelton family, especially when it comes to the guest list and the menu.
What does a Royal couple even eat to celebrate their engagement? What’s the wedding day menu–think guests choose between the duck or the beef? One of my best friends got married this summer and I was in awe not of the food we ate at her wedding, but of the desserts we had at her bridal shower the day before. Her family friends had homemade cupcakes with hearts and “I love yous.” My favorite was a cookie hand with a rock candy ring (pictured above).
The desserts just made the event so much more special for some reason. In fact, I have more pictures of these treats than I have from the entire bridal shower! It was just so touching to eat these treats that were made with such love and creativity. -Dara Pettinelli
