If you’re not currently obsessed with your Instant Pot, then I’m not sure what you’re doing with your life, because this thing has literally changed my life — and millions of others.
Case in point: I recently learned that the “steam” function on the Instant Pot doubles as a genius hack for cooking and peeling hard-boiled eggs in literally no time flat. Honestly, I thought it would just be a fun way to make eggs for breakfast, but was surprised by how insanely easy the shells just slid right off.
Here’s a fool-proof step-by-step guide …
Step 1. Grab a measuring cup and some water.
I started off by filling the inner pot with about 6 cups of water. Then I placed the steam rack into place. (FYI: While you’ll eventually want to purchase a proper steamer basket, the one that comes with the IP is sufficient for your experimenting phase).
Step 2. Bring the water to a boil.
Simply hit the “steam” button and let the water heat up until it’s boiling — and ready for those eggs.
Step 3. Now add your eggs.
I placed five eggs total onto the rack (but you can add more if you like), closed the lid, and sealed the valve. Easy peasy.
Step 4. Wait for the magic to happen.
The eggs were done in about 10 minutes, and I immediately took them out after doing a quick pressure release (or NPR — which basically just means to let time do its thing, and the pressure will release at its own sweet pace.)
Step 5. Cool the eggs down.
Run them under cold water for a few seconds to prevent them from over-cooking.
Step 6. Start peeling!
The most important thing to note about this picture is that those are my husband’s hairy arms and not mine. (I know you were wondering.) And the second most important thing to note is that these eggs are practically peeling themselves. MAGIC.
Step 7. Try not to eat them all at once.
And there you have it: A protein-packed breakfast without any rogue shells — all from using the super easy (and super versatile) IP steam function.
