Or at least that’s what trend-forecasters like Rachael Ray, Betty Crocker, the Huffington Post and NY Daily are saying. Pie may be classic, but it’s also a fun recipe to play around with. Fillings, crusts, savory or sweet. Give pie a chance and something creative (or perfectly classic) and always delicious, is bound to unfold.

For these Easy Pie Cups kids get their chance to play around with pie dough and filling by crafting their very own mini pies – without making a huge mess. Since these Pie Cups use standard muffin tins and muffin liners the end results are hand-held sweet treats that are perfect for lunchboxes or single serving healthy sweet snacks. A healthy serving of fruit (even from a mini pie cup) is always a nice idea.

Here’s how it works:

* 1 – Craft a whole pie as you choose. Any pie crust variety and any filling. Hopefully you will have a few leftover ingredients (or make a bit more than the recipe calls for).
* 2 – Use your entire amount of ingredients normally used to make one full sized pie, for these pie cups.

*Station Prep. Let the kids dive into mini pie making! Pour the pie filling in a kid friendly bowl with a few spoons – and line a muffin tin with muffin liners. Give them each their own ball of pie dough. This can be from thawed frozen crusts, or from a batch of homemade dough.

*Pie Cup Filling! Next up, the cup-filling fun – let the kids go wild! Show them how to layer pie crust with pie filling. They can make little criss-cross mini pie designs or simply lay it flat. They will be excited to see their different pie shapes bake up into beautiful Mini Pie Cups.

*Bake at 400 degrees for about 15-20 minutes, or until the crust is browned and the filling begins to bubble.
